State : MANIPUR (Hmar)
HMAR They live in the North Cachar and Cachar districts of Assam. The word Hmar literally means the north. Hmar, their mother tongue, come under the Kuki-Chin group of the Tibeto-Burman languages. The Indo-Aryan language, Assamese, and the Assamese script are used by them for inter-group communication In Mizoram they speak in Duhlian Tawng, popularly known as the Mizo language, as their mother tongue they use the Roman script. The Hmar are non-vegetarians. Rice is their staple food. Rice beer or zu is the home brewed beverage consumed by them.
