Kantha embroidery is a beautiful and traditional craft that is about 500 years old, dating back to pre-Vedic times. It started when women reused old sarees by sewing them together with simple running stitches, using thread taken from the discarded saree borders. Today, women from the Santhal tribe in West Bengal continue this tradition. They use Kantha stitching to create charming handmade designs on clothing and fabrics. This simple yet creative art form transforms old materials into something new and meaningful, rich with culture and history.
