As Holi, the festival of colors, approaches, let’s take a step back from synthetic colors and embrace the beauty of nature. India’s tribal communities have been celebrating Holi for centuries using natural, plant-based dyes that are not only vibrant but also safe for the skin and the environment. This year, experience a sustainable and culturally rich Holi with Tribes India and its exquisite range of tribal-made herbal colors, handcrafted attire, and traditional treats.
Maharashtra’s lush landscapes and rich tribal culture have inspired a range of art forms, each unique and deeply connected to nature. Among these, the “Tarpa” stands out as a traditional wind instrument crafted by the tribal artisans of Maharashtra’s Palghar and Dahanu regions. Built from natural materials like bamboo, wood, and dried gourd, the Tarpa embodies the essence of the forest and hills, producing a sound that has been treasured for generations.
India’s tribal communities have a unique connection to their traditions, reflected in their vibrant crafts, handwoven fabrics, intricate woodcrafts, metal crafts, terracotta creations, beadwork, and captivating paintings. These crafts, originally created for personal and cultural use, have now found their way to markets, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage of India’s tribal culture. TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) has taken the lead in providing a sustainable platform for tribal artisans to showcase and sell their creations, ensuring they receive fair compensation and recognition for their talent.
